It all started when I was a teenager. I had my first weimaraner in 1979. Lady was my first bird dog, and I used to hunt with her all the time. We used to hunt waterfowl and upland game, giving me a clear view of the versatility of the breed. In 1988, after I was married, we acquired our second weimaraner. By 1996 we started our breeding program and started AKC hunt tests and field trials. Over the last ten years of competition we have been successful with Top Ten Derby and Top Ten All Age Gun Dogs, along with a few Field Champions. We were very fortunate along the way to have met some wonderful people to guide us through it all.
At Von Zdon Kennels we breed for beauty, brains, and most importantly the ability for a dog to put in a hard day out in the field. Whether hunting, competition, or family pet, we can help find the right pup for you. We are members of the Weimaraner Club of America ( WCA ) and abide by their code of ethics. We are also members of the Garden State Weimaraner Club, and I am an AKC Performance Judge of pointing breeds.

A lot of people ask us why we compete with our dogs. The answer is simple. First and foremost it shows proof that the dogs are highly trainable, and will be eager to work with, and for their masters. Secondly, it is proof of sound temperament. To those who have never been to an AKC field trial, let me explain. Dogs are run in competition in braces of two at a time. Dogs are NEVER to fight each other. They are let go onto large parcels of land to seek out gamebirds. They are followed by two handlers, two judges, and any number of people wanting to watch the dogs do their job. All of these people are on horseback. So what you get when you have a pup from proven parents, from the field, show, or obedience circuits is peace of mind that the parents of your pup are from sound temperament, and good natured parents.
